Fernando participating in 2010 Taste of Tennis Australia

Fernando will be one of the players participating in the NAB Taste of Tennis Presented by Pandora next month just before the Australian Open kicks off. Fernando joins other players like Pat Cash, Andy Roddick, Sam Querrey, Nicolas Kiefer, Vera Zvonareva, Aleksandra Wozniak, Jarmila Groth and more. The event features some of Melbourne’s top chefs who will pair up with the players to prepare dinner for guests. In addition to amazing food and signature cocktails, this 3-hour party will feature a variety of interactive stations, full open bar, great music, and a silent auction that benefits the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

You can visit the official website here for more information or to purchase tickets :)

Off-Season Hiatus

Hi guys :) This is just me letting you know that I’m still here but that the site will be on a mini-hiatus until the tennis season kicks off again next month. Right now, Nando is recovering and getting ready for next year, so there isn’t going to be much in the way of news and updates.

However I’ll be a busy little bee this off season working on getting the rest of the site all put together. I’ve still got a lot of work to do on the results pages and I’m constantly adding new pictures to the gallery (click the link to the right or click here to check those out.

Fernando will be playing in Kooyong for his Australian Open tune-up, and isn’t defending his final appearance in Brisbane as far as I know. You can check out his tentative schedule for the coming year here.

So in conclusion, you might not see updates on the main page here, but keep checking back, as I’ll be constantly adding new stuff to the site in preparation for the new year! Vamos Fernando and good luck :)

Fernando’s ideal girl

I haven’t the slightest idea what he’s saying other than the fact that his ideal girlfriend must be someone who loves her family because he loves his family, and someone who can be both his girlfriend and his friend.

Also, adidas? A+ on the jacket. He looks very nice in the purple + yellow.

Fernando & Feliciano inaugurate the Puerta del Sol nativity scene

On Thursday, Fernando and Feliciano were invited to the Real Casa de Correos, located in Puerta del Sol, to inaugurate the traditional nativity scene constructed in the building’s courtyard. The scene is formed by 600 figures and hundreds of buildings in varying sizes, all occupying 175 square meters in area.

The boys were accompanied by the president of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, to whom they presented special presents. Fernando gave her a replica of the shirt he wore in the Davis Cup final, with a signed dedication: “To my friend Esperanza, with affection,” while Feliciano gave her a replica of the racquet he used.

Fernando NOT competing in Bilbao exhibition

ETA: Fernando will not be competing in Bilbao this weekend. He is being instructed by doctors to rest for two weeks in order to fully heal the injury that he sustained at the Masters Cup in London. He spent time recovering before Davis Cup, but he is not fully 100% and prefers not to take risks by participating in the exhibition, following the recommendations of Dr. Angel Ruiz-Cotorro who prescribed for him “rest for two weeks and anti-inflammatory treatment.”

Fernando is returning to Bilbao this weekend to defend his title in the Master de Tenis Bilbao-Bizkaia exhibition tournament. Fernando saved a match point in the second set tiebreak in last year’s final, defeating Tommy Robredo, 4-6, 7-6(9), 7-5 to take the title.

Joining Fernando at the eight-player exhibition are fellow Davis Cup teammates Feliciano López, David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo, Juan Carlos Ferrero and local player Guillermo Olaso.

As defending champion, Fernando gets a bye to the semifinals, where he will face either Juan Carlos Ferrero or Guillermo Olaso

Meeting the Prime Minister

The boys were also invited to Moncloa Palace in Madrid earlier today to meet with Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who praised the Armada, saying “all of Spain is proud of this team and there is nothing better for a country to be proud of their athletes, especially you, who will go down as the best generation of Spanish tennis to have ever lived.”

The boys signed an official RFET shirt and gave it to Zapatero, who assured the gathered tenistas that their names are etched forever in the Spanish tennis legend.

Davis Cup Ceremony

MATCH POINT: DC Doubles

“It’s unbelievable to win the Davis Cup two years in a row. We are so happy because this time we won in Spain. It has been my best year by far. I started the year having just won the Davis Cup and I finish the year winning the Davis Cup again so you can imagine how I feel. I just want to improve and hope that next year we win the Davis Cup again and I play even better for myself in the tour during the year.”
