Fernando scored his first win over a top-ten player in almost a year when he beat Novak Djokovic today 6-1, 6-2. Unfortunately I didn’t get to watch the match (my cousin had a baby earlier this week, and cute babies > tennis, sorry to say :p) but from what I’ve heard, Nando was in fine form and Novak in not-so-fine form. Still, a win is a win and even though this one, as an exhibition match, doesn’t count in their head-to-head, it’s still a pretty great win for Fernando and it should really boost his confidence going into the Australian Open next week!
Fernando will face the winning of tomorrow’s semifinal match against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Juan Martin del Potro.
Not many pictures from the match, but you can nab them from the gallery thumbnails to the right of this post :)
Also, some fun from Fernando’s first match against Fernando Gonzalez :)
(thanks Nadal News!)

Congratulations Fernando im so happy for you .. well done and good luck!!!

I watched it, and something was definitively up with Novak (he looked a bit sick actually) but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Fer played a great match and would have been a tough challenge even if Novak had been in top form. There was a couple of lame 2nd serves, but apart from that, everything seemed to be clicking and good omen for AO. Onwards and upwards!

Woo, this is great to hear! I was worried about his form, but I think despite those close losses in London, he’s become really motivated for this season, and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in Australia!

Sorry, not on internet – I live in Australia and they showed it on TV. Might be worth checking something like http://www.adthe.net to see if anyone is live-streaming, but with several other tourneys on ATM exhibition prob. not high priority!
BTW: I will be tweeting from AO from R3 through to QFs as @raindelaysplay if anyone wants to follow me following the Armada and others!

So many people have facebook account so it would be a great if fernando verdasco could have official facebook fan page. All those information you should put on faceebok and than people would come here often. i know you are having a twitter but it’s not so popular in europe just like facebook.
If you are having facebook verdasco news fan page or something just like it put the link on your web site here! Thanks a lot

I actually JUST got in contact with the person running the existing facebook fan page for Fernando yesterday about this! She added me as a co-admin this morning, so now posts from here will also be published there and then they’ll link people back here. Here’s the link:
