Fernando delivered an impressive 6-2, 6-2 defeat to top seed Novak Djokovic today to advance from his first Masters semifinal to his first Masters final. Fernando was on almost perfect form throughout the match, needing a little over an hour and a half to seal the deal. His first serve was on fire with 75% in the first set and 81% in the second, with four aces and a single double fault. It was a good match from Fernando and will give him confidence going into tomorrow’s final
He will face compatriot Rafael Nadal in the final. Regardless of the outcome of tomorrow’s match, Fernando will re-enter the top ten at #9

You can also watch here, if you speak Spanish (and even if you don’t!) a video from his post-match interview, where Feli makes an appearance :)

Thank you for posting the Spanish clip! What a great win last yesterday! Definitely one of the best wins of his career. He played good tennis – perhaps not his absolute best – but good enough and more importantly he stayed mentally strong and focused. In the English interview on TennisTV he talked about getting really angry and upset when he lost that set to Montanes and being determined not to do it again, and I think that really set him up for this win. Enhorabuena Fer! So looking forward to tonight’s match with Rafa. Going to be the ultimate test of my loyalty to Rafa – I really want him to win his record-breaking sixth, and break his title drought – but it would just be soooo good to see Fernando win this. Very torn. Will be very happy and a little bit heartbroken either way. But what a great final to look forward to today! Hope it’s close, whichever way it goes!

so glad that he’s finally made it to a masters final. Don’t know who to support though. Verdasco’s my favorite player and it’s about time he got into the top 5 but nadal’s my second favorite and desperately needs this title. tough one
