Fernando is the #9 seed and has a bye in the first round. Second round, he’ll face either a qualifier or youngster Ricardas Berankis. He could play Sam Querrey in the third round and #5 seed Andy Murray in the quarterfinals. You can view the full draw here

Fernando’s draw for the first slam of the year, next week’s Australian Open! He’s defending a fourth round appearance here, and will be hoping to replicate his success from 2009, because he’s got a very rough draw. He’s in the bottom section of the draw, in Federer’s half, but in Djokovic’s quarter. He could face Tipsarevic in the second round and Davydenko, the man who ended his 2010 AO run, in the third, then Berdych in the fourth. Should he make it out of that unscathed, he’ll likely face Djokovic in the quarterfinals. So it’s going to be a very tough battle for him, especially since he hasn’t had a great time so far in his warm-up events, but he had a similar slump before the US Open last year and managed to reach the quarterfinals. This slam is always full of surprises, so anything can happen! Vamos Fernando!

Also, no doubles, at least not with Feli, who’s playing with Juan Monaco instead.

Happy New Year :) First post of the year here at Verdasco News! Fernando did an interview during his preparation for the upcoming Brisbane International, where he talked a little bit about his pre-season as he played a little tennis football with Aussie footballer Matt McKay!

Fernando will play Benjamin Becker in his first round match in Brisbane; Fer leads their head to head 4-2, but lost their last meeting in Bangkok a few months ago. Hopefully this time, he’ll be much more motivated and will get a win! Vamos!

Fernando is the #3 seed and looking to improve on his semifinal appearance from last year. He’ll need to do well here in order to keep his hopes in qualifying for London alive. He’ll face qualifier Michael Russell in the first round, and either Gilles Simon or Sergiy Stakhovsky in the second and Nikolay Davydenko or Philipp Kohlschreiber in the QF.

The doubles draw is also out and Feli & Fernando will take on Andy and Jamie Murray in the first round.

Fernando is the #9 seed and plays Dutch up-and-coming Thiemo de Bakker in the first round. He could go up against Juan Monaco in his second round match and could face defending champion Nikolay Davydenko in the third round and finalist Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals.

Fernando needs to do well here in order to get into a good position to claim one of the final remaining spots to London this year. David Ferrer’s final appearance in Beijing bumps him up to #8 in the race, knocking Fernando down to #9, so he will need to play much better at his last three events (Shanghai, Valencia & Paris) if he wants to keep his London hopes alive.

The doubles draw is also out and Fernando will play doubles with Feli again. They take on Chinese wild cards Zhang Ze and Bai Yan. They would face #3 seeds Jurgen Melzer & Leander Paes if they win.

Fernando just managed to grab the 8^th seed in Cincinnati, so he has a bye in the first round! He’ll play the winner of Mardy Fish/Gilles Simon in his second round match and could face Mikhail Youzhny, Richard Gasquet or compatriot Tommy Robredo in the third. He has a potential quarterfinal clash with Jurgen Melzer or Andy Murray and should he make the semifinals, he’d likely face Robin Soderling or Novak Djokovic.

The doubles draw is out! Feli and Fernando will play the Brazilian team of Marcelo Melo and Thomaz Belluci in the first round!

Also, apologises about the lack of updates! I was volunteering at the women’s tournament in Cincinnati for most of the last part of the Washington tournament and the first few days of Toronto, so I wasn’t able to update here. Fernando has a tough draw with lots of potentially dangerous opponents. He takes on the Russian Igor Kunitsyn in the first round, at could set up a rematch with Florent Serra in the second. After that, he could get the always-tricky German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the third, and either Fernando Gonzalez or compatriot Nicolas Almagro in the fourth, leading up to a clash in the quarterfinals with world #2 and 4-time champion Rafael Nadal.

Fernando has a bye in the first round of Monte Carlo and will face either Ivo Karlovic or Evgeny Korolev in the second. He has a potential third round meet-up with Tomas Berdych (their fourth meeting this year and second on clay) or David Nalbandian, a quarterfinal meeting with Thomaz Belluci or Robin Soderling and a semifinal meeting with Rafael Nadal.
