Indian Wells 2010 Tournament Draw

Click below to see Fernando’s section of the singles draw for the upcoming Indian Wells Masters tournament:

Fernando has a bye in the first round of Indian Wells and will face either Andreas Beck or a qualifier in the second. He also has a potential third round meet-up with Tomas Berdych, a fourth round meetup with Nikolay Davydenko and a quarterfinal meeting with Rafael Nadal.

Fernando into the San Jose semis

Fernando defeated Lithuanian qualifier Ricardis Berankis 6-3, 7-6(5), to advance to the semifinals of the SAP Open, where he’ll face Denis Istomin for a spot in the finals against either #1 seed Andy Roddick or #7 seed Sam Querrey.

The draw for next week’s Regions Morgan Keegan Championship was also released today. Fernando will face Jeremy Chardy in the first round! Vamos!

Also, the SAP Open twitter reports that Fernando will make his decision about whether or not to play Davis Cup after Memphis. He was dealing with a sciatic nerve injury several days ago and is playing through hamstring pain. Hopefully he’ll recover and be as close to 100% as possible for the upcoming hard court and clay Masters in the coming months. Vamos :)

Australian Open draw

No time to make a big post until sometime tomorrow, but here’s a look at part of Fernando’s draw for the 2010 Australian Open. His first round opponent will be Australian player Carsten Ball. In the second round, he could potentially face either Dudi Sela or a qualifier, and beyond that, he’ll get either a qualifier, Rajeev Ram or fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in the third round. After that, his draw gets a bit trickier, as he could face Nikolay Davydenko, against whom Fernando has a. It doesn’t get any easier from there, as Fernando could then go on to have a quarterfinal clash with former champion and current world #1 Roger Federer.

Here’s a look at Fernando’s potential first, second and third round opponents:

And you can view the full draw here. Fernando’s been showing good form in Kooyong, so let’s stay optimistic about his chances to make another good run in Australia. Vamos :)

Battle of the “Forehandos” kicks off Fernando’s 2010

Fernando will kick off his 2010 tennis season at the AAMI Classic in Kooyong tomorrow, where he will face Chilean Fernando Gonzalez. You can view the schedule and full draw here.

Fernando had ten days off after helping Spain win their second Davis Cup title last December, and then went straight to Las Vegas to resume his training regimen with fitness coach Gil Reyes, spending a fortnight training and running up the 320-yard Magic Mountain.

“I was there for two weeks. I didn’t have any more time because I only finished the Davis Cup on December 7, but at least I did the same as last year and I am happy with that. I had almost 10 days holiday and then started working in Vegas, so I am not feeling too bad. That 10 days helped me a lot to recharge my batteries again.”

Fernando to play Sampras in exhibition

Fernando will face one of the greatest tennis players of all time in February–no, not Roger or Rafa.

Fernando will face the great in Pete Sampras in the SAP Open in San Jose, California on February 8.

Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Mardy Fish and Tommy Haas will join Pete and Fernando in the six-man exhibition.

Fernando faces Federer first

Fernando’s first round robin match in the 2009 ATP World Tour Finals will be against World No. 1 Roger Federer. Fernando is 0-3 against Federer. Their last meeting was earlier this year at Indian Wells where Roger won 6-3, 7-6(5). Prior to that, they have met at the Hamburg Masters twice in 2005 and 2008.

Best of luck, Fernando!

London draw

I thought I had scheduled this to post earlier yesterday morning, but instead accidentally set it to post on December 18th! Oops! This is Nando’s section of the draw for the Year End Championships in London.

Just getting to the YEC is a great accomplishment for Nando, so he’ll have to bring his best game in order to compete with the three other men in his round robin group. He is 1-10 against Federer (0-3) and Murray (1-7, his only win from earlier this year at the Australian Open) and he has never played Del Potro. The Finals are best three-of-five sets, so anything can happen :) Best of luck, Fernando!

Paris Masters singles draw

The singles draw for the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris has been released! As he is one of the top sixteen seeds, Nando has a bye into the second round. There, he faces the winner of the first round match between Philipp Kohlschreiber and Andreaas Seppi. Nando is 3-4 against Kohlschreiber and 5-0 against Seppi (Kohlschreiber is 1-0 against Seppi)

If he advances past the second round, Nando could have a potential meet-up with Marin Cilic in the third round (Nando leads 2-1 but Marin has a win on hard court) and Roger Federer in the quarterfinals (Roger is 3-0 against Nando)

You can view the full draw here :)

Valencia Open draw

The singles draw for the Valencia Open 500 has been released! Nando will play compatriot Óscar Hernández in the first round. Provided he wins, he’ll face the winner of Victor Hanescu/Janko Tipsarevic in the second round, with a potential meet-up with good friends and Armada teammates Feliciano Lopez or Tommy Robredo in the quarterfinals.

Nando & Óscar have only met once, in a challenger in 2002 on clay which Nando lost, so the match should be interesting. Let’s hope that the extra training Nando’s had over the last two weeks has paid off and he can go far here!

In addition, because Andy Roddick withdrew from the tournament, Nando has been bumped up to the number 4 seed!
